Bigfoot, Loch Ness, cops walking a beat

All I want pictures of and someone in Truxton has a picture of a rare sight, I could not believe it when I was told.... there were police officers walking in the neighborhood. Walking! Not sitting in a car looking exceedingly bored, but walking around.
There are benefits of walking that one cannot get from driving or motorcycling. A slowness that comes with having to move under your own power. There are drawbacks but hear the benefits. You notice the little things. If the police walk around I believe they too will notice the little things, the behavior and patterns of those who are around. You also get to know the people. Walking around I bump into familiar faces and there is some sort of relationship ranging from the general 'I acknowledge your presence as a human being' to neighborly friendship. Walking cops might, just might, develop a deeper relationship with the community with this greater interaction. Maybe.
Update: LB put the picture up on the TruxtonCirlce.org site (thanks!).

Good luck with that. The ONE time I saw a cop on foot in CH, he was by the elementary school SUPPOSED to be making sure the kids don't get run over over picked up by weird guys in vans. He was on his cell phone the whole time though.

I know exactly what you mean. Just the other week, I thought I was hallucinating when I saw a police office on Good Hope Road, SE on a bicycle.

A bike cop! In SE DC!

I'm keeping my eyes open for demons in parkas. I know that can't be too far behind.

That should be "officer" and not "office". Can you imagine an office on a bike?

LB- email me the pix and I'll post it.
Ninja- was he walking? Walking and talking on the phone, he maybe could have done some multitasking and add watching kids and keeping down crime to the mix.

Speaking of cops, after the shooting at the Shaw metro, I've seen two scout cars parked there every time I've walked by. The other night I saw about six cars swarming the apartments near there, probably trying to find someone. It's sad it took a death to get police there, but it's nice to finally see police keeping the harrassment and violence down. Hopefully they'll keep an eye on the area for a while.

By the way, how many police are on shift in each ward at a time? I'm curious to figure out how many blocks per policeman. It just seems like the police sightings have been too low in the past.

Cops on foot in DC! If you didn't have the photo, I wouldn't believe it. Can you re-deploy a couple to Brookland?
